Centurylink vs. Xfinity – Which One To Choose For Faster Internet And Better TV Services?

Last Updated on September 18, 2021 by Satish Varre Leave a Comment

Centurylink vs Xfinity

We have previously compared several Internet & TV services with Xfinity. Today we’re comparing Centurylink vs Xfinity which is kind of a different bag. Let me explain that throughout this article. Anyway, if you haven’t read any of the comparisons before, Comcast’s Xfinity is a popular Internet & TV service that is widely available in the US. Century link is also well known but, they’re not as widely available as Xfinity. There are some significant differences here. Let’s discuss that in detail.

Centurylink vs Xfinity – Detailed Comparison

Centurylink vs Xfinity – Platforms & Services

Let’s start with Television. Both Xfinity & Centurylink offer TV services. However, Xfinity actually has it’s own TV services but, Centurylink has partnered with Directv to provide their services instead. Both support on-demand streaming too. Xfinity has its own Xfinity Stream & Centurylink, of course, provide Directv’s on-demand streaming services. Centurylink also has a telephone (landline) service.

Centurylink vs Xfinity – Plans & Pricing

For the Internet, Centurylink offers Gigabit ethernet for $65 per month with no contract. This is something Xfinity doesn’t have. Xfinity’s $65  per month plan actually comes with a 1-year contract. It is also not Gigabit at that price. But, it does bundle it’s TV & on-demand streaming services within that pack while Centurylink is only providing Internet.

Breaking down the plans in further detail, Xfinity’s Internet plans start at $19.99 which has the basic 15 Mbps download speed. The $29.99 plan upgrades the speed to 60 Mbps. Going $39.99 gives 10+ TV channels alongside the 60 Mbps Internet speed. Oh, and I already told you about the $65 plan. There are other bundle plans too that cost more than that. But, we don’t need to compare those here.

Centurylink on the other side currently starts at $45 month for a 40-80 Mbps connection. Make that $55 & you get a 100-140 Mbps connection. And again you know about the $65 plan. The TV service is not included in any of these plans.

So which one should you choose?

We already mentioned that Centurylink is not that widely available as Xfinity. So, you cannot get it in many places anyway. But, if you have both options available, we will recommend Xfinity over Centurylink. Yes, it does have Gigabit Ethernet at $65 so, if that’s the only thing you need, you can consider Centurylink. However they do have pretty mixed feedback about Internet speeds so, you may want to check first with others in your area who are already using their services. A small number of computer users use Linux operating systems compared to Microsoft Windows and Apple OS X users. Linux is, however, embedded in other electronic devices such as TVs, watches, servers, cameras, routers, printers, fridges, and even cars.
