Directv vs. Xfinity – How To Choose The Best One For Your TV

Last Updated on October 2, 2021 by Satish Varre Leave a Comment

Directv vs Xfinity

If you’re looking to get a new cable connection, you may end up confused about the type of the connection. There are wired cable connections like Comcast’s Xfinity or there are also satellite connections like AT&T’s Directv. But, how can you actually choose the value between two entirely different ecosystems? Well, that’s where the real confusion begins. But, you’re far away from that situation. We did a strategic Directv vs Xfinity comparison to help you out with your decision. Let’s break this into several parts so, it’s easy to understand & there are no confusions.

Directv vs Xfinity Platform Differences

AT&T’s Directv is based on Satellite TV so, they’ll fit one of those dish antennas on your roof & it’ll receive signals from the company satellite & send them to your DVR. On the other hand, Xfinity is based on the old school cable connection. So, the signal travels through wires to the DVR. In a more simple manner of speaking, Directv receives its signals over the air but, Xfinity receives them through a wired connection.

Directv is better in this significance without a doubt but, during bad weather, satellite TV does face problems. However, Directv’s record in this area is pretty satisfying. However, Xfinity is slightly on the edge of an advantage here. Bad weather shouldn’t be an issue for it. The rest is completely up to your personal preference.

Directv vs Xfinity Pricing & Availability

Talking about just the TV, Directv starts at $35 per month for 12 months (contract of 24 months in total). However, the second year will cost you $81 per month. This includes 155+ channels but, there aren’t much of the sports channels included. There is a $45/month plan that includes some of the popular sports channels as well and  185+ channels in total ($110/month in the second year). This one also comes with 1 year of HBO included. Lastly, there is a $60/month package that includes 250+ channels ($135/month in the second year). Also, the second & third package will still require $8.49 per month if you want regional sports.

Xfinity, on the other hand, starts at $49.99/month and it has a 1-year contract instead. The starter pack includes 140+ channels. There are also two other packs for 59.99/month (220+ channels) & $104.99/month (260+ channels, includes HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, etc.).

So, if the Second year costs weren’t that high for Directv, it would have gotten our preference. But, if we consider the two-year costs of both these services, we’ve to give the edge to Xfinity. Also, the on-demand available titles (for online streaming) are also way more in Xfinity. Though, the DVR comes free with the Directv contract.

Regarding availability, Directv has slightly better availability compared to Xfinity in the US.

Which one should you get?

Considering, the pure price to content ratio, Xfinity goes all the way. But, if you want satellite TV anyway, then Directv is a really good option.  Also, availability plays a big part here. If you live in a place where either one of these doesn’t provide service, you’ve to go with the other one anyway.

That’s it for this one. If you have any other questions, please drop them in the comment section below. We’ll be happy to help you.
